Victoria Green - How to perfectly pack your toiletries for any trip

Victoria Green | Perfectly pack your toiletries

Whether you love to travel light or cannot leave home without packing the kitchen sink, spending time to prepare your beauty bag will ensure you travel well without any toiletry mishaps. Here are my top 5 tips for staying organised when travelling with your beauty products.

1. Ensure you use a leak-proof wash bag and makeup bag

Nobody wants to spend the first precious hours of any trip hunting down the nearest dry cleaner in an unfamiliar city or hunched over a wash basin trying to rectify a shampoo explosion, so be organised and ensure any beauty bag you use is leak-proof. As you pack your toiletries make sure each cap or lid is on tightly, however this measure is often not enough. Somehow, no matter how much care is taken when packing, there are incidents so make sure the wash bag and makeup bag you use to travel is a fully leak-proof design to ensure any in-transit accidents are confined to the interior of the beauty bag and do not ruin your carefully selected capsule wardrobe.

2. Use a checklist

Just like you plan your outfits for any trip, think about the makeup looks you would like to rock on your travels. Using a checklist is a wonderful way to ensure you have everything you need including your core beauty items and any must-haves like medication. Do remember to add in a touch of well-being luxury with an extravagant bath soak or opulent body oil. My top tip is to use a wash bag with clear compartments which not only allows you to check the items packed but also easily access these when you reach your destination. To make life easy we have a Beauty Packing Checklist for you to download here

3. Decant your toiletry essentials

For shorter trips or holidays where space it at a premium, consider decanting your favourite shampoos, conditioners, cleansing lotions and moisturisers into smaller bottles and containers. Use squeezy bottles for haircare products and smaller hard pots for eye creams and moisturisers. Ensure you label the containers as often creams and liquids can look remarkably similar when decanted.

4. Pre-pack your airport liquids in a reusable clear liquid bag

Getting through security at the airport can be a stressful experience and we have all experienced seeing beauty products confiscated from those all around us in the scanning queues. To avoid the frustration of having your most cherished perfume confiscated, make sure you know the rules and pre-pack your liquids. Firstly, all items should be a maximum size of 100ml. It is worth noting that having a small amount left in a 250ml bottle will violate the rules which is based on the container size. The maximum total amount of liquids allowed onboard is one litre so bear this in mind when pre-packing. Using a TSA compliant reusable clear liquid bag ensures you can pre-pack all your liquids ready to pop onto the scanning tray. Is mascara a liquid? And hairspray? 5. Use a beauty bag with compartments

A beauty bag which features multiple compartments is so useful in multiple ways. Firstly, it lets you separate and organise your beauty products allowing you to easily pack and access your items when you need them. It is also really handy when on the go and looking to keep wet things apart from dry items. Afterall no one wants to store a damp flannel next to a supply of cotton wool pads! However, my favourite bit about travelling with a multiple compartment beauty bag is being able to remove sections to take my beauty bits out for the day. I use the clear airport pouch from the Emma 3 in 1 Beauty Bag to take my sun cream, moisturiser, and lip balm to the poolside as well as my keys, headphones, and mobile phone as it keeps all the items organised and safe.
