As long-time believers and advocates of pre-loved items, the Clean & Tidy Home Show team believes that, over recent years, many more people have further understood the benefits of gifting pre-loved items and a recent study commissioned by Oxfam confirms this.
Oxfam’s UK wide study of 2,000 adults who celebrate Christmas revealed …
· 62% consider the current climate crisis an important factor when buying pre-owned items.
· 24% are changing their purchasing habits this Christmas to avoid waste, with 23% wanting to buy second-hand gifts that might otherwise end up in landfill were they not recycled by a charityshop.
· 52% generally feel ‘happier’ buying second-hand Christmas presents than buying brand new.
· 42% are now more open to receiving second-hand gifts than in previous years.
The study concluded that “second-hand gifting is far more acceptable now – with 31 per cent feeling they’re doing the right thing for the environment and 17 per cent ‘feeling good’ for much longer than when buying something new as a Christmas gift.”
