At the Clean & Tidy Home Show, I was asked “What makes for a happy home?”
My reply was a single word - “Love”. When you love the people and the possessions and clothes in your home, that will be the foundation for solid happiness.
“New year, new you” is a theme I totally endorse, because when you are wearing what you love and makes you confident, that confidence will affect every aspect of the rest of your life.
I believe wearing what you love involves following your true style. It's time we all stop wearing what others expect us to wear.
This new year, be empowered and get creative about how you wear and combine the clothes in your wardrobe. Then let that creativity flood into the whole of your home. “You must trust and believe that you know yourself better than anyone else. As long as you are happy with what you are wearing and it makes you feel good, then wear it!” This is a principle I discuss with my clients. When we get the reassurance that comes from wearing clothes we love, we become much happier in our own skin.
Having confidence in what we wear can play such a big part in our life and I believe that confidence stems from acceptance of ourselves and our bodies.
That acceptance gives us permission to dress our bodies in what we love, and the confidence that flows from that is what pushes us forward to try new things. It will also help us put our foot down and go against the current fashion trend. Just dress for yourself- as long as you like it that’s all that matters.
When you allow that principle of only having things you love around you to flow into other areas of your home, you will be in a space you love. Living in a space that you love is another way of building confidence and has a number of health benefits. It affects your mental health, gives more mental clarity, lessens stress and frees up more time to spend doing what you love with the people you love
Two of the factors that cause stress in our busy home life is lack of space and time wasted looking for things because we have accumulated so much more “stuff”. Most of the time this “stuff” we are holding on to isn’t even making us happy- it is making us miserable. So perhaps it is time for a new year purge of all the clutter that can so easily accumulate.
Your home, like the clothes you wear, is a reflection of your personality and should make you feel happy.
As we embark on 2023 why not look around your home with a fresh perspective. If you do not love something, work towards changing it, whether it’s something as small as a chipped mug that needs repurposing as a plant pot, or a whole wardrobe overhaul. Being available to give yourself a space that you genuinely love will be the best kick start to the year and has the potential to have a ripple effect on all other aspects of your life.
