Mirror, mirror on the wall….

Mirror in hallway

Mirrors in the home are more than just a practical object to check your lippy or straighten your tie before heading out the door.  Mirrors can be used to add drama, create a focal point and reflect light. With so many different mirror shapes, styles and sizes available the age-old looking glass has been elevated to a new status in our homes.

A mirror with an ornately carved frame or unusual shape can make as much of an impact as any painting and is a great way of creating a centrepiece in a room.

Alternatively, why use just one mirror when you could use many! By grouping together smaller mirrors, either all in the same shape or creating an eclectic mix of designs, shapes and sizes you can lift a previously plain wall to a different dimension.

Their ability to reflect light and give the illusion of space has to be the most treasured qualities of a mirror. Positioned opposite a window even on the darkest of winter days a mirror will harness any available daylight. The bigger the mirror, the brighter the space will feel. It’s not just natural light that can be manipulated this way either, by placing a mirror near a table lamp in that gloomy corner of the room will make all the difference.

där lighting and Libra Interiors are some of our favourite places to purchase beautiful feature mirrors but even the high street stores such as Dunelm have some great options.

So, when you next consider updating your interiors make sure you find some space to hang a mirror, or two!
