Laura's Shine Squad Story

Tell us a bit about yourself

Hello lovely people, I’m Laura also known as @cleaning_at83 on TikTok. My journey began during lockdown after I had my daughter & I was stuck at home with 2 kids, on maternity leave and also home learning. With nowhere to go and very little people to see I filled my free time creating content. I’ve always loved a clean, tidy and decluttered home but with 2 kids in a small house it was becoming a difficult task, but I love showing everyone my reality and that’s what I’m all about.

How did you learn to keep a home?

I think keeping a home just came natural to me, from a young age (as young as 8 from what I can remember) I was always moving my bedroom around & reorganizing my space.  My mum always said if I’d disappeared upstairs for a while she knew she would walk into a transformed bedroom.

Do you ever feel overwhelmed? How do you cope?

ABSOLUTELY!! I have high expectations of myself when it comes to my home, I like things to look a certain way before bed and when I leave the house! Lowering those expectations & being kinder to myself helps me cope and realize it doesn’t have to be that way! I love a list, writing lists is my go to when I’m feeling overwhelmed and spreading everything out over 7 days instead of cramming it into 1 definitely helps relieve the pressure.

What homemaking product couldn’t you live without?

Any type of container or box, whether its to store food, clothes, documents, toys … everything lives in some type of container in my house. I like everything hidden away as much as possible because I like a clutter free space – this also makes tidying up a lot easier!

Why is #shinenotshame important to you?

Who else see’s a doctor when they’re unwell? Or takes your car to the garage when it stops working?  This is getting help, whether it’s to feel well again or to get you from A to B. We should adopt this same attitude when it comes to our homes, there’s no shame in asking for support.

What is an interesting fact about you?

I’m such a home bird that when buying my first house I came back to the street I grew up on, it felt like home before we even viewed it!
