Events and Mental Health

Events and Mental Health

One in four people are impacted by mental health during their life time. Our mental health affects everything we do – from our overall levels of happiness to the how we feel physically. Everyone is different but generally meeting and connecting with other people improves our mental health outlook.

When you are not feeling at your bravest it can seem easier to not get out and face the world and stay at home where you hopefully feel safe and in control, but it can also be lonely.  Taking the step into a new environment can challenge that comfort-zone but it will also give you new and exciting experiences.

Events are hubs of knowledge and newness; places where you can expand your understanding of the world around you. They reach all our senses and add variety to our daily lives, which is the spice of life.  Events have been shown to have the following positive effects:

>  Positive experiences and reduced isolation

>  Learning opportunities and the chance to develop new skills

>  Calming experiences which decrease anxiety levels

>  Increase positive emotions such as hope, enjoyment and optimism

>  Self-esteem and a sense of self and community

>  Positive distractions from lives which can be dominated by clinical environments

>  Increased opportunities for finding meaning & mutual understanding

>  New experiences which may be inspirational or meaningful

>  Allow communication between families & other carers away from the normal environment, allowing you to refresh the discourse.

Ways that the Clean & Tidy Home Show will help people who are feeling nervous about attending the event:

- We have staff available to talk to from Mind in Tower Hamlets and Newham

- We have a quiet zone which can be used by anyone who is feeling overwhelmed and needs to step away from the main event for a while

- Please tick the relevant box on the form when booking tickets

- The event will run a series of free presentations which are designed to give you information that will help you live the best possible life

- After each presentation we will nominate an area for anyone who wants to continue the conversation to congregate. This will allow you to meet people who are interested in the same areas as you.

- Carers are admitted free of charge.

Mental Health and wellbeing are of paramount importance, especially right now following the Covid-19 pandemic.  Mental Health impacts us all and the evidence shows that the loneliness and isolation as well as the anxiety and potential employment risks will impact many people. Our organisation is gearing itself up to manage an anticipated 33% increase in referrals for support.  We are delighted to join this event and to support the mental health and wellbeing of our community.
