Spring is coming, the buds are peaking through the ground and we think about the changes we can make in our homes for the coming year. The cold winter months are behind us and we want to feel the warmth again.
We can start with looking at the Feng Shui of our homes and using the five element system and how each element relates to a compass area of our home.
This year particularly in the Year of the Water Tiger for 2022, the five elements are all sitting in their “home palaces” which means that there is a double energy of the elements, this year for those life areas in our homes.
This diagram shows the colours for each sector of the compass and the different life sectors.
This chart can be useful as to which colours to bring into the areas of our homes to enhance what we would like to accomplish in our lives at this time.
We do not need to buy new, it’s about how we can recycle, re-use and upcycle what we have in our homes already with a splash of colour, using the colour palette of the 5 elements with materials, paint, throws, carpets, tiles, lamps, objects that we have in our homes. Being creative and painting shapes, cutting shapes that represent the five elements can also enhance the life areas.
To promote and enhance – bring more of into your life.
Fire – Star, pyramid, pointed shapes - South - orange, red, flame colours and green and brown from the wood element as wood makes the fire .
Earth – Square - South West and North East – pinks, yellows, apricots, beige, terracotta and orange and red as fire makes the earth’s ashes.
Metal – Round, oval, dome shapes - North and North West – grey, white, metal colours, gold, brass, shiny and shimmery colours also earth colours can be used and the earth makes iron ore.
Water – Wavy, fluid , soft, - North – blue, turquoise, light blue, dark blue, black, the colours of water and enhance with metal colours for this area as metal or turns to liquid.
Wood – Rectangular - South East and East - greens of nature in varying shades, lime green, browns of various shades and water colours of blue and black as water promotes the growth of wood and plants.
When painting and upcycling our bedroom furniture we can use colour, perhaps pink and orange into the South West and North East with hand quilted covers for cushions, taking old clothes and jumpers with “special memories” to make into a colourful patchwork quilt to bring the brightness of the Spring energy into the relationships sector.
Painting the table legs as a contrast to the top of a table or dresser or the legs of a chair can have an impact on how we feel with seeing and sitting on those colours and if in the kitchen, the chairs could be painted a variety of colours to change the energy of the space by bringing in the element of that colour into that area of our homes.
If there is a lot of wood furniture in the West and North West, the base could be painted or the tops painted a variation of shades of grey to promote, creativity, joy, romance, helpful friends and travel to come into our lives.
There are many ways to use the elemental colours of each sector; to paint skirting boards rather than walls or hang different ribbons from curtain rails in the colours that will enhance and promote that life area.
By moving a few items in one area of your home to another area such as using cushions and throws from the living room in the bedroom, see and feel the different effect it has. Just by “moving” the chi energy it can change and have positive effects in our lives, when done with Intention of what we would like to achieve.
