Cleaning your home with a newborn

Cleaning your home with a newborn

I’m Sophie and I’ve recently had my first baby. I wanted to share with you some tips on how to keep on top of your house work with a new born. Before I had my baby I pretty much had ‘all the time in the world’! I would pretty much clean every day!

I’ve really had to try and organise my time effectively to fit in some time to clean my home. I’m not going to lie the first 5 weeks at least we’re a right off! I don’t think I actually mopped my floors once! My husband was amazing and kept on top of the general house work but I was dying to get stuck into doing some cleaning again.

Here’s my top tips on how to get your house work done with a newborn:

1. Have a morning routine. This little tip works really well for me. I will give my baby his morning bottle and then he will go back down for a sleep. This is when I will run around the house getting everything in order for the day. Making sure that all the pots are away everything is away. Dinner is planned and nappy caddy’s are stocked up. If I have any extra energy I will do some cleaning too!

2. Set yourself a 5 min timer - if you find you have a spare 5 mins in your day and you have the energy, then put a timer on for 5 min and see how much you can get done. You’ll be surprised! I can clean my bathroom in 5 minutes! Give it a go!

3. Don’t go up the stairs empty handed. This one is quite straight forward. But it really does help not to walk past thing on the stairs. I like to have a basket at the bottom of my stairs and take that up with me when I go!

4. Put a wash on every day (timer at night). I love doing this! And I didn’t really anticipate how much washing there would be with a new born but I NEED to do at-least 1 wash a day!

5. Deep clean 1 room a week, this way you won’t be overwhelmed and will never have to do a ‘full house clean’.

6. Batch cook meals (preferably before giving birth) this will use less pots! Less pots = less cleaning and more time

7. My last tip is do not put pressure on yourself too. If you have a day on the sofa cuddling your new born, that’s ok! The polishing can wait!
