Avoid feeling overwhelmed this season

Christmas clean and tidy
"I usually spend Christmas day at my parents and with 2 dogs and 2 young kids we have so much stuff to take with us! I try and take a few things over to their house in the days leading up to Christmas so leaving the house and packing the car isn't so stressful on Christmas day. Then I help my mum as much as I can so she isn't overwhelmed by our arrival!"

"I often find the most overwhelming time is packing everything up after Christmas. Looking forward to sharing some more useful tips later this month but in the meantime, make sure you save a square of cardboard or an empty wrapping paper roll – you can wind your Christmas lights around it to stop them from becoming tangled and this way you can unwind them from storage as you pop them straight on to the tree next year."

Sue, A Life More Organised

"The last couple of years I spend Christmas at my parents house as it’s just myself and my two little ones. It can be overwhelming sorting out my kids and the excitement. I try to tidy up rubbish as I go along to be organised and help my mom in the kitchen in between. I tend to get my bags ready the night before so less rushing in the morning. Anxiety is normal but making lists definitely helps."

“One of the most overwhelming things as a parent on Christmas Day is all of the new toys and the mess that it creates! Before the day myself & Seren usually sort through her toys and donate any that she’s outgrown so there’s space for the new arrivals. On the day I make sure to have a recycling bag at the ready to put any wrapping paper in & to tidy up as we go. I also have a couple of Christmas themed bags which her new bits go in to- the shopping bags from Tesco for example do the trick. Seren likes to have them all out for a couple of days so at least then they can be placed in the Christmas bag and be put in the corner for if we need some space for guests and for it to feel less cluttered. But most importantly, try not to let it get to you, enjoy the day, embrace the mess and have fun- it’s over way to quick!”

“Christmas is always done at my home & I can absolutely feel overwhelmed during the run up to it, especially juggling work, teens & the home! I make weekly lists of things I need to do Which help keep me on track and I take great joy in ticking them off! This year I am also going to spend sometime batch cooking & freezing some meals so that I don’t have to stress too much about food over the Xmas period”
