Lizzy Hall

Founder and Trustee, The Hygiene Bank

In August 2018, Lizzy watched the Ken Loach film, ‘I, Daniel Blake’. Moved by the scene where a single mother is caught shoplifting basic toiletries, Lizzy sent a WhatsApp to friends saying she was collecting items to take to her local foodbank. It quickly transpired that the film was reflecting reality – foodbanks and other community support organisations throughout the UK were crying out for toiletries. Thanks to Lizzy’s determination and the power of social media, her single collection of basics evolved into a national charity and movement against hygiene poverty. Today there are over 200 local projects, powered by over 580 incredible volunteers, who provide donated nappies, shampoo, toothpaste and other essential hygiene basics to people in need via community-based partners such as food banks, schools and shelters. A passionate changemaker, Lizzy remains actively invested in the work of The Hygiene Bank as a trustee and advocate for challenging the injustice of hygiene poverty.
