When my last home sold on the day it hit the market I took it as a sign to turn my love of interiors into my next career. I'd created somewhere three sets of buyers wanted so much they all offered the asking price, sparking a bidding war.
It was very different to the stress of my previous move, when my flat sat on the market for months. With hindsight I can see there were lots of simple things that could have been done to improve the presentation and lead to a much smoother sale!
Calm, cosy, organised spaces are irresistible to buyers — and so much more relaxing to live in. I get a real buzz hearing from a client who's just accepted an offer and is on the move; it's the same when I see the stress lift during a decluttering session. If you're selling and know you have a good eye, a consultation could be all you need.
I take great pride in stretching clients' budgets as far as possible. Home staging isn't just arranging flowers and cushions: it's a powerful marketing tool that boosts your likelihood of getting better offers.
After my successful sale, I studied interior design and home staging around my day job as a magazine journalist. Jane Lee Interiors launched in 2019. I still write regularly about home staging, editing, styling and design, am a member of the Home Staging Association and the Association of Professional Declutterers & Organisers, and hold a Houzz Best of Service award 2021.
I live in a Sussex village close to the South Downs, near Brighton. My favourite style is Scandi — the photo's of me in Iceland trying on a traditional sweater for size!
